It has an estimated population of circa 4,500 residents (estimated in 2002) but with new local development, it is likely to be approaching 5,500 and over 6,000 when including the local communities of Catherington and Chalton.
With fantastic access to local amenities and a semi-rural location perfect for family living, Clanfield has now become an area booming with additional residential developments. Bovis Homes are now developing a range of 2 storey properties perfect for both individuals and couples seeking to get on the property ladder and larger homes for families seeking more space. The development, called Windmill View, is being developed with a new community centre, playing fields and allotments.
Clanfield was originally a small farming community centred around the St James's Church in Old Clanfield which dates from 1305 but was rebuilt in 1875. The original mean of Clanfield is derived from the Old English and means "field clean of weeds". It is bordered on 3 sides by the South Downs National Park (east, north and west).

The Clanfield Challenge is made up of 5 individual race routes - a 20 kilometre, 12 kilometre, 5 kilometre, 2 kilometre and 1 kilometre race. All are based in Clanfield, Hampshire and the money generated by the races are to be used to fund local community projects in and around the Clanfield area.
